When Sandra Dalzell arrived in Canada 20 years ago from a small English town she hoped someday to visit the world famous Calgary Stampede. This year not only did she get to see the Stampede, but along with husband Dave and friends Bob Kennedy and Wael Yassein they became the 1st team from Ontario to compete in the prestigious $250,000 Team Penning event at the 2006 Stampede.

“When we entered the Saddledome (right) and saw ourselves on the Jumbotron, we had to pinch ourselves to believe it was true” exclaimed Sandra.

“We had a goal to finish in the top 20 with all of our team members competing” said Sandra. Not only did they achieve their goal; Sandra, Dave and Bob placed 4th overall out of 160 teams in the open class taking home a cool $10,000 in prize money. Wael, Dave and Sandra also finished in the top 20 in the #7 class out of 120 teams.

"The whole Stampede experience was just incredible. We would love to do it all over again.” according to Sandra and Dave.

In addition to their team penning activities the Dalzell’s operate a boarding and lesson facility near Orono Ontario. There are also several young prospects on the farm, many from their stallion “Doc O Bueno Dunny” who goes back to the famous foundation sire Poco Bueno.

Dave and Sandra have been loyal customers of Brooks Feed Store for several years and have hosted a nutritional seminar put on by the Brooks Staff. “Our horses looked terrific and performed so well. There’s no question that sound nutrition was a big factor in our success” added Dave, who has responsibility for the horses feeding program. The Dalzell’s use a variety of Brooks rations on the farm including Flax Appeal, Phase V, and Phase l and ll for their growing horses. The staff at Brooks is thrilled for the Dalzells. We congratulate them for their success and hope to see them back representing Ontario again in the future.
